Carry invites Lily and Rosedale over, clearly to try to help Lily get married. Lily takes a walk with Rosedale and says that she is ready to marry him if he is. Rosedale says that he no longer wants to marry Lily, but wouldn't mind just hanging out. Lily was like no thanks, that won't work for me. Rosedale explains that he needs to marry someone that can keep him in good social standing, and Lily has relinquished that position. He says that if she makes up with Bertha he would marry her. He suggests using the letters, which Lily didn't even know he knew about. Lily says no to using the letters, keeping on that moral high ground she has clung so tightly to recently. Rosedale thinks that Lily refuses because Seldon also features in the letters, so he is mad. They both leave apparently deciding that it isn't going to work.
