The whole gang runs into each other in
Europe – Selden, who was alone, then the group of the Brys and
Carey Fisher, and then of course the Dorsets accompanied by Lily and
Ned. Selden is mad at Lily and is annoyed that he can't seem to get
away from her, and even worse – he still loves her. He is talking
with Carey and they discuss how Lily keeps messing up marriage
propositions to rich men – Carey says she thinks Lily secretly
doesn't want the life she is running after. Selden then decides to
leave for Nice, and of course runs into the Dorsets and Lily and Ned
on the train. He studies Lily and concludes that she seems to just be
lending herself out to people, and doesn't seem youthful anymore.
Later on, he sees Bertha and Ned getting into a cab together also.
