Lily asks Selden for help with the
whole Dorset thing. Selden feels bad that Lily will get caught in the
cross fire, because he knows as well as everyone that the whole thing
is Bertha's fault. He also notices that when he talked to to George,
he seemed a lot calmer, and he didn't think it was his doing. Lily
also noticed that Ned was absent from their company randomly so that
might be a thing. Everyone goes to an important dinner that night.
Selden observes Lily some more, and admires her beauty again, but
decides that he is now over her. At the end of the meal, Bertha
announces that Lily was not coming back on the yacht with the
Dorsets. Lily tries to make it not a big deal by saying she had
business in the early morning anyway. Once outside, Lily begs Selden
to help her find a place to stay without rising scandal. Selden
suggests Jack's, and Lily wants anything else, but Selden doesn't
offer any other solutions. He talks to Jack and Jack agrees to the
arrangement as long as Lily is out first thing in the morning and
Gwen doesn't know about it at all.
