Lily is becoming good friends with
Bertha, mainly because Bertha needs someone to distract her husband
while she flirts with Ned, but Lily is ok with this because this
arrangement keeps her in good social standing. Gus is becoming
increasingly possessive of Lily. Judy hadn't yet invited Lily back to
Bellamont, so Lily was worried Judy had heard the rumors about her
and Gus, but Lily asked Judy about it and was immediately invited.
While there though, Lily realized she was being scrutinized so tried
her best to stay away from Gus. Once she gets back to town, the Brys
are having a party with live art, meaning beautiful fashionable
ladies posing. Lily is chosen as one of the women. Selden goes and
realizes that he loves Lily. He sneaks out to the garden with her,
kisses her, and tells her this, but Lily says he shouldn't tell her
that and runs away. Selden then goes back inside, and hears Gus being
posessive again saying Lily shouldn't put her beauty on display for
everyone like that.
