Because Lily took Selden away from
Bertha the other day, she decided to retaliate. She went and told
Percy all the dirt about Lily and scared him away so he left
Bellamont. Then to Lily's face she was all like “Wow weird that he
left. Wonder why....” Lily is very upset, and rightfully so because
she just lost her chances with a really rich single man, meaning she
just lost a very rich life, which is enough to ruin anyone's day.
Judy sends Lily to pick up Gus, and on the way back Gus is talking
about work. Then Lily gets a great idea to relieve her debt a little
bit – she starts complaining (but in a beautiful tragic way, not an
annoying way) about her financial situation, and Gus, who works in
the stock market, offers (as Lily knew he would) to take her money
and help her invest it to help her earn some. Lily is delighted
(because it was her idea) and gratefully accepts his help.
